Howard Gibbs (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Howard Kenneth Gibbs, son of Kenneth and Margaret Brown Gibbs, was born May 17, 1939, in Lebanon, Missouri. He departed this life Friday, March 30, 2018, in Mercy Hospital, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of seventy-eight years, ten months, and fourteen days.
On April 4, 1980, he was united in marriage to Peggy Jo Wimberly and they shared the last thirty-six years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Carl E. Gibbs.
Howard is survived by his wife, Peggy, of the home; three sons, Kenneth Wayne Nunn, and his significant other, Crystal, Russell Scott O’Dell, and his wife, Trudy, all of Lebanon, Missouri, and Kenneth Gibbs, and his wife, Meryl, of Purdon, Texas; three daughters, Holly Gibbs, and her husband, Russ, Kelly Conn, and her husband, Marty, all of Lebanon, Missouri, and Lisa Roop, of the State of Texas; ten grandchildren, including two that he helped raise, Kayd and Nikki Nunn; three brothers, Bill Gibbs, Donnie Gibbs, and Dale Gibbs, all of Lebanon, Missouri; three sisters, Sue Sutton, Judy Williams, and Joan Rozin, all of Lebanon, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in Lebanon, and attended Lebanon R-III Schools. He then entered the military as a young man and served his country faithfully in the United States Army from June 25, 1956 until May 28, 1958, and was stationed in Hawaii during the Korean War. He then returned to Lebanon and began working at Independent Stave Company. After he and Peggy were married, they made their home in Lebanon. He later worked for Tracker Marine for a number of years, and was continuing to work as a security guard two days a week.
Howard had an appreciation for the Baptist faith.
In his spare time he enjoyed camping and fishing, and also liked working on lawn mowers. He was happiest when he was busy doing something. His family was important to him and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren.
Howard was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that he will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
