Ila Asa's Obituary
Ila Marie Asa, 91, of Brumley, Missouri, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Lake Regional Hospital. Ila was born July 14, 1919 in the Brumley area to Clarence Calvin and Delcie Marie (Godfrey) Phillips. Ila and Clarence ?Lee? Asa were united in marriage May 4, 1940 in Richland, Missouri. Lee preceded Ila in death November of 1984. Also, Ila and Lee were preceded in death by their son, Darrell Lee Asa, January of 1975. Ila lost four brothers, Elvin, Issach ?Ike?, Clarence ?Pat? and Louie Phillips all of the local area. Surviving is her daughter, Cleeda Marie Follis of Brumley/Springfield; three granddaughters, Melissa Marie Asa-Marshall and Marnie Marie Asa of Las Vegas, Nevada and Shila Aimee Follis-Shaffer (who will be having a daughter March 17th) and her husband Christopher Shaffer of Springfield, Missouri and three great grandchildren, Joshua, Amy and Jessie and one great-great granddaughter, Isabella, all of Las Vegas, Nevada. Ila was employed by Pratt and Whitney in Kansas City, Missouri from 1942 until 1946. Ila and Lee owned and operated the historic Asa Building Stone Quarry, on highway 42, supplying the Lake of the Ozarks Construction Community. After Howard Johnson?s Hotel opened for business, Ila became their executive housekeeper for twenty-two years. Ila?s favorite pastime was fishing with her friends and never failing to land the Crappie. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at her membership church, Rodden Church of Christ, with Reverend William Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow in Robinett Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday in the church. Both the church and cemetery are located south of Brumley, 11/2 miles off Highway C. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Ila Asa memorial fund.
