In Memory's Obituary
Vyonne June Spray, daughter of Lloyd and Mildred Crewse Herbst, was born January 5, 1929, in Des Moines, Iowa. She departed this life Sunday, March 7, 2010, in St. John’s Hospital, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-one years, two months, and two days. On October 24, 1947, she was united in marriage to Richard D. Spray, and to this union two daughters and two sons were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Don Herbst. Vyonne is survived by her loving husband of sixty-two years, Richard, of the home; two sons, Terry Spray, of Phillipsburg, Missouri, and Tim Spray, of Des Moines, Iowa; two daughters, Jeanine Willis, of Springfield, Missouri, and Laurie McGee, of Des Moines, Iowa; seventeen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa, and graduated from East High School in Des Moines. After she and Richard were married, they made their home in the Des Moines area and lovingly raised their family. Vyonne and Richard had also opened their home to several foster children throughout the years. In addition to being a devoted homemaker to her family, Vyonne worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for several years. For the last eighteen months, Vyonne and Richard had made their home in the Lebanon, Missouri area. Vyonne was an active member of Staves Memorial United Methodist Church in Des Moines, for over thirty years. Since moving to Lebanon, she and Richard had attended the Lebanon Family Church. She loved music and enjoyed playing the piano and organ. She liked to travel and greatly enjoyed spending the winters in Texas. She also liked to sew for herself and her family. Her family was always the center of her life and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Vyonne was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them throughout the years. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday March 12, 2010 at the Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt. Rose Memorial Park. Visitation is Thursday evening 6-7:30 p.m. under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home in Lebanon, Missouri. Return to top
