Hood, Nelson Jean Nelly, 73 Nelson Jean “Nelly” Hood, son of George and Myrtle Ann Degonia Hood, was born March 21, 1933, in Morse Mill, Missouri. He joined his parents in heaven on Thursday, July 13, 2006, in St. Mary Health Center, in Jefferson City, Missouri, at the age of seventy-three years, three months, and twenty-two days. On November 19, 1955, he was united in marriage to Betty Gene Allstun, and to this union three daughters and two sons were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Thomas Kringer, and James Hood; and a sister, May Manley. Nelly, as he was called by his family and friends, is survived by his loving wife of fifty years and eight months, Betty Gene, of the home; three daughters, Linda Taylor, and her husband, Bill, of Hartville, Missouri, Jackie Medley, and her husband, James, of Springfield, Missouri, and Barb Moore, and her husband, Danny, of Edwards, Missouri; two sons, Michael Hood, and his wife, Donna, and Kenny Hood, and his wife, Jody, all of Willard, Missouri; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, that he lovingly referred to as his “Brats”; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born and raised in Morse Mill, Missouri. He then worked for the Lincoln/Mercury plant in St. Louis until being drafted in the Army. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army from April 10, 1953, until March 25, 1955, just after the Korean War. He then met his wife, Betty Gene, while living in the apartment upstairs of her parents home. After they were married, they traveled around a lot and Nelly worked in the mining industry. He enjoyed being outdoors where his favorite activities were hunting and fishing. He also liked beating his boys at the game of poker. He possessed a delightful sense of humor and enjoyed playing pranks on his family and friends. Nelson will be fondly remembered and dearly missed as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle, and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the memories he made for his family and friends. Services will be held at10:00 a.m. Monday, July 17, 2006, in the Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Camdenton. Burial will be in the Cable Ridge Cemetery, Edwards, Missouri. Services are under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton, Missouri.
