Ina Hudson's Obituary
Ina Wave Garner Hudson, daughter of Noah Cleveland and Columbia Price Garner, was born December 4, 1916, in Grovespring, Missouri. She departed this life Saturday, December 6th, 2009, at her home in Hartville, Missouri, at the age of ninety-three years and two days. On August 24, 1940, she was united in marriage to Arden Hudson, and to this union three daughters and one son were born. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arden, on November 9, 1999; her parents; and her brothers, Lloyd, Luther, Irvin, and Roy Garner. Ina is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Dot Hudson, of Hartville, Missouri, and three daughters: Elizabeth Chilton, of Lexington, Kentucky, SaraSue Austin and her husband, Rex, of Mustang, Oklahoma, and Nancy Hudson, of Springfield, Missouri; eight grandchildren: Kristin Chilton, Lucinda Lawson and her husband, Scott, Darin Hudson, Cheryl Moreland and her husband, Roy, Regina Jennings and her husband, Coy, Katrina Banner and her husband, Dwain, Rebecca Karber and her husband, Jeff, and Kenneth Arden Austin and his wife Meena; nine great-grandsons; seven great-granddaughters; a brother-in-law, Miles Hudson and his wife, Ann; and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was raised on her family’s farm in Grovespring and was a member of the first graduating class of Grovespring High School. She went on to attend Draughon Business College in Springfield, Missouri, before returning to live and work in Hartville, where she dated and married Arden. Shortly afterward, she and Arden purchased the Hudson family farm from Arden’s parents and made their home there, lovingly raising their family. Ina was instrumental in the operation of the Hartville Milling Company after she and Arden acquired it in 1965. In 1987 they left the farm and made their home in Hartville, where she lived for the last twenty-two years. Ina made her profession of faith in Christ as a young woman and was baptized at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where she attended and served for the remainder of her life, blessing others with her sweet and gentle spirit and the work of her willing hands. While raising her children, Ina taught 4-H sewing and cooking classes and worked in many Vacation Bible Schools. She was a member of Mt. Zion WMU as well. Ina was a knowledgeable and accomplished needle worker, gardener, cook, and bookkeeper. She especially enjoyed growing African violets, feeding birds and loving her sixteen great-grandchildren. Ina was an exceptional wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. She will be remembered by her family and many friends for her kindness and quiet wisdom, and she will be greatly missed. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday December 9, 2009 at Mount Zion Baptist Church. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery. Visitation os Tuesday evening 7-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Lebanon, Missouri. Return to top
