Ione Smith (Seymour)'s Obituary
Dora Ione Smith, daughter of Arthur Lee and Arbella Moody Rich, was born April 22, 1918 in Cold Springs, Missouri. She departed this life Saturday, August 9, 2014 in her home, Seymour, Missouri, at the age of ninety-six years, three months, and eighteen days.
On September 14, 1934, Ione was united in marriage to Paul Smith, and together they shared sixty-years of marriage until his passing on April 28, 1995.
Ione was also preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Gary Smith; granddaughter, Tiffany Smith; siblings, Raymond, Clinton, Hubert, Dorothy, Eunice, Agnes, Vernie, and Dee.
She is survived by her children, Doris Heard and husband Arnold of Hobbs, New Mexico, Fred Smith and wife Lillian of Dodge City, Kansas, Norman Smith and wife Bessie of Marshfield, Missouri, Wayne Smith, Mary Smith, Barbara Brooke, and Dean Smith and wife Patty, all of Seymour, Missouri, Ricky Smith and wife Charlene of Nebraska, and Ruth McPhail of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; twenty-nine grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren; nineteen great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Arthur Rich and wife Dee of Marshfield, Missouri; sister, Delores Shelby and husband Dick of Illinois; a number of nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and many dear friends.
Ione was born in Cold Springs and spent her younger years living there. Following her marriage to Paul, they remained in Cold Springs for a while before moving to Dogwood, Missouri. Ione would later retire to Seymour, where she lived with family until her passing.
Ione had accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and was baptized by her father, who was a Freewill Baptist minister.
In her spare time, Ione loved quilting, working in ceramics, and created stuffed dolls. She was an avid gardener, and enjoyed canning the produce from her garden. Ione had won a Blue Ribbon for canning over one-thousand quarts in a single year.
Ione was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will treasure the many wonderful memories she has created for her family and many dear friends.
Memorial to Three Rivers Hospice may be given at the funeral home.
