Iralene Berchekas' Obituary
Iralene Eva Underwood was born on November 23, 1946 in Davenport, Iowa, to Ira Elmo and Eva May (Muench) Underwood. She passed away the morning of Wednesday, July 13, 2011 in Huntsville, Alabama. She attended several schools growing up and was a 1965 graduate of the Seymour High School in Seymour, Missouri, where she had participated in the pep club and Future Homemakers of America. She accepted Christ as her Savior July 26, 1964 and was baptized August 23, 1964 when she was 17. Iralene married Basil A. Berchekas Jr. on June 28, 1969. To this union two sons were born. Iralene was active in Cub Scouts as a senior adult leader and in the Holy Cross-St. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church. She always enjoyed puttering around with her flower garden. In her later life, she had continued her education and had 2 years towards a B.S. degree in Plant Science at Alabama A&M. She is survived by her husband, Basil A. Berchekas Jr.; two sons, Basil A. Berchekas III; and Jon D. Berchekas and his wife, Ashley, and their son, Nicholas, all of Huntsville, Alabama; two brothers, Joseph A. Underwood and his wife, Vickie, and Dale H. Underwood and his wife, Linda, of Seymour, Missouri; one sister, Regina Lawson of Hayden, Alabama; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and too many friends to mention. Iralene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will cherish the many memories she has created for her family and many dear friends.
