Iva Guinn's Obituary
Iva Dell Dougherty Barber Guinn, daughter of Nathan and Anne Wagnon Dougherty, was born October 2, 1918, in Clovis, New Mexico. She departed this life Wednesday, June 10, 2009, in St. John’s Hospital, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety years, eight months, and eight days. Early in her life she was united in marriage to Frank Barber, Jr., in Enid, Oklahoma, and to this union one daughter and two sons were born. Mr. Barber passed away in 1980. On August 31, 1991, she married John Elwood Guinn, and they shared the last seventeen years. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Richard Barber. Iva Dell is survived by her husband, John, of the home; a daughter, Barbara Jene Pitt, and her husband, Stevan, of Phillipsburg, Missouri; a son, Paul F. Barber, and his wife, Frederica, of Phillipsburg, Missouri; three stepsons, Rex A. Guinn, and his wife, Patty, of Nicholasville, Kentucky, John Douglas Guinn, and his wife, Kathryn, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Russell Scott Guinn, and his wife, Ronda, of Eldridge, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Scott, Brett, Heath, Jamie, Whitley, Jennifer, Wendy, Anna, and Marnee; seven great-grandchildren, Hunter, Gage, Emma, Devon, Isabella, Emily, and Tanner; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born and raised in New Mexico and in the pan handle of Texas, and graduated from high school in Pampa, Texas. After she and Frank were married, they made their home in various locations while Frank worked in the oil business. Through the years, Iva Dell was a devoted homemaker and loving mother to her family. She and Frank eventually retired to the Long Lane, Missouri area where they raised beef cattle. After she and John were married, they moved to Arkansas where Iva Dell worked in the benevolent room at the Church of Christ in Hardy, Arkansas. She enjoyed helping others in need with clothes and food. In 1999, she and John moved to Lebanon, Missouri and made their home. Iva Dell was a longtime member of the Conway Church of Christ for many years. While living in Arkansas, she attended the Church of Christ in Hardy, Arkansas. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing and liked making bibs and aprons for nursing home residents. She also was a wonderful cook and enjoyed preparing special meals for her family and friends. Her involvement in the annual P.T.A. carnival at Long Lane Elementary School raised many dollars for essential needs. She was a very loving and kind individual who never met a stranger or knew an enemy. She loved her family dearly and greatly enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Iva Dell was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday June 15, 2009 at the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Lebanon. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday evening 7-8:30 pm under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home Lebanon, Missouri. A memorial has been established to the Fair Haven Children's Home.
