Ivah L. Leathers' Obituary
Ivah Lucille Burns Leathers, daughter of James Ellis and Josephine DeCoursey McGuire, was born March 30, 1924, in Camden County, Missouri. She departed this life Tuesday, April 11, 2006, in Camdenton, Missouri, at the age of eighty-two years, and twelve days. On June 22, 1940, she was united in marriage to Tom Burns, and to this union four daughters and two sons were born. Tom passed away in 1981. Later, in 1983, she married Larry Leathers, who preceded her in death in 1985. She also was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Penny Stidham, and Wanda Luttrell; a son, Wade Burns; a son-in-law, Sterling Luttrell; three grandchildren, Lucille Barr, Kelly Dawn Ripley, and Claude Edward Ripley, Jr.; two brothers, Warren and Alvia McGuire; and three sisters, Elsie Rucker, Leona Burns, and Adah Marler. Ivah is survived by two daughters, Jackie Sluss, and her husband, James, of Linn Creek, Missouri, and Dorthaia Ripley, and her husband, Shawnee, of Eldridge, Missouri; a son, Duke Burns, and his wife, Bertha, of Camdenton, Missouri; a daughter-in-law, Sandy Burns, of Abilene, Kansas; a son-in-law, Stanley Stidham, of Linn Creek, Missouri; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-five great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, J. R. McGuire, and his wife, Betty, and Gene McGuire, and his wife, Janice, all of Camdenton, Missouri; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Burns, and Lorene McGuire, both of Camdenton, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born and raised in Camden County, Missouri. After she and Tom were married, they made their home in the Camdenton area and lovingly raised their children. Throughout the years, Ivah was a devoted and hardworking homemaker to her family. Ivah made her profession of faith in Christ early in her life and was a member of Mount Horeb Missionary Baptist Church, near Decaturville, Missouri. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, quilting, and growing beautiful flowers. She loved her family dearly and was a wonderful mother and grandmother. Ivah was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 14, 2006, in the Mt. Horeb Missionary Baptist Churh. Burial will be in Mt. Horeb Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6 - 8:00 p.m. under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton, Missouri. Memorials to Mt. Horeb Cemetery may be made through the funeral home.
