Ivan Chapman's Obituary
Ivan Earl Chapman, son of Artho Elvin and Etta Mae Henson Chapman, was born September 12, 1935, near Lebanon, in Laclede County, Missouri. He departed this life Sunday, April 8, 2007, in St. John’s Hospital, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of seventy-one years, six months, and twenty-one days. On May 18, 1957, he was united in marriage to Shirley Gene Tadlock, and to this union four sons were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Kevin Dale Chapman; an infant brother, Marvin Chapman; and a special uncle, Emmett Chapman. Ivan is survived by his loving wife of almost fifty years, Shirley, of the home; three sons, David Chapman, of the State of Texas, Dennis Chapman, and his wife, Tammi, of Long Lane, Missouri, and Darrin Chapman, and his wife, Michelle, of Phillipsburg, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Kevin, Jason, Ricky, Brandon, Sasha, Heather, and Kyle; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Dale Chapman, and his wife, Deloris, of Peculiar, Missouri; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends. He was born and raised in the Phillipsburg and Long Lane communities, and graduated from Buffalo High School. After he and Shirley were married, they settled into their family homestead near Phillipsburg, and lovingly raised their sons. Ivan worked for Richardson Plumbing, and Stiles Roofing Company before being employed by the H. D. Lee Company for several years. He then worked as a road maintenance engineer for the Missouri Highway Department out of Conway, Missouri for twenty-five years before retiring. Ivan had made his profession of faith in Christ and was an active member of Cedar Ridge Freewill Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. In his spare time he liked being outdoors where his favorite activity was hunting, particularly coon hunting, and also enjoyed fishing. He was a compassionate person who was always willing to help others. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ivan was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, and was a caring neighbor and friend. Throughout his life he made many wonderful memories for his family and friends that will live on forever in their hearts. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2007, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Lebanon. Burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery, near Long Lane. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 7 - 8:30 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri. Memorials to the New Hope Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund may be made through the funeral home.
