J.D. Allen (Hartville)'s Obituary
J.D. Allen, Wright County resident and devoted husband of Norma Allen, departed this life Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, at the age of eighty-two years, eight months and four days. On September 24, 1931, he and his twin sister were born to Owen and Opal (Buck) Allen on the family farm outside of Grovespring, Missouri.
J.D. met and married Norma Irene Spitler, the best hot fudge sundae maker in Portland, Oregon, on October 22, 1955, and to this union four children were born. He was drafted at age 21 and served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. J.D. worked in landscaping for many years until becoming an over the road truck driver which he did for 45 years.
J.D. was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; and his twin sister, Dara Lee.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years, Norma, of the home; son, Roy Allen and wife Lori, of Hamilton, Missouri; daughter, Barbara Von Moss and husband Mike, of Jessup, Georgia; daughter, Connie George and husband Jim, of Clarinda, Iowa; and Amanda Allen and husband RD, of Hartville, Missouri; ten grandchildren, Olivia, Alanna, Andrea, Eric, Joshua, Justin, Jimmy Jr., Hannah, Josiah and Rebekah; four great-grandchildren and one on the way; and extended family, dear friends and neighbors.
J.D. was a caring husband, dedicated father, loving grandfather and loyal friend. He will be fondly remembered as a jokester and prankster with a great sense of humor. We take this time to honor his memory and celebrate his life and accomplishments. We will cherish the memories he created for us and treasure the moments spent with him. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
