Jack N. Brittain (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Jack Nathan Brittain, son of Alva “Punch” and Iva M. Banning Brittain, was born May 8, 1929, in Brookfield, Missouri. He departed this life Wednesday, December 2, 2020, in The Arbors at North Ridge Place, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety-one years, six months, and twenty-four days.
On April 20, 1957, he was united in marriage to Janet Lucille Olenhouse, and to this union three daughters were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janet, on March 25, 2008; and a grandson, Nathan.
Jack is survived by three daughters, Jennifer Craft, and her husband, Michael, Jo Ellen Brittain, all of Lebanon, Missouri, and Jacquelyn Cruz, and her husband, Al, of Springfield, Missouri; four grandchildren, Laura, Megan, Jenna, and Matthew; three great-grandchildren, Anthony, Emily, and Adeline; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was raised in the Chillicothe, Missouri area and graduated from Chillicothe High School. He then attended Chillicothe Business College for a couple of years. He entered the military as a young man and served his country faithfully in the United States Army for several years. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he made his home in Kansas for a time. He and Janet then moved to Lebanon, Missouri, and made their home in the old Burley house on Adams Street, which was placed on the National Registry of Historic Homes. Jack worked in the Communications Division at Fort Leonard Wood as a civil service employee for a number of years.
He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post # 4107 in Lebanon where he was very active and a faithful member of the Honor Guard for a long time. He was a very patriotic veteran. He enjoyed taking care of his home and yard and was a familiar face at both Senior Peppers and Applebee’s Restaurant. He owned a 1968 Mercury Cougar which he enjoyed taking to car shows. His family was very important to him and he was very proud of each of his daughters and his grandchildren.
Jack was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and was a caring friend. We celebrate his life and know that he will be fondly remembered as a loving family man, a dedicated worker, and a patriotic citizen.
Guests may sign the guest book and make memorial contributions to the Lebanon V.F.W. Post 4107 at the Holman-Howe Funeral Home in Lebanon, Missouri.
Graveside services for Jack Brittain will be held Saturday, May 8 at 11 a.m. at Edgewood Cemetery in Chillicothe, Missouri.
