Jack Deckard (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Jack Edward Deckard was born March 23, 1933 in Grovespring, Missouri to Earl and Laverne Davis Deckard. He passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2026 in Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. He was ninety-three years, three months and twenty-nine days of age.
He grew up in the Grovespring area and was a graduate of Lebanon High School. Following high school, Jack served four years in the United States Air Force, mostly in San Antonio, Texas.
He was a farmer at heart but spent many years at McDonald Douglas Aircraft in St. Louis and later as a truck driver. Most of his truck driving career was driving for Bishop Furniture and H. D. Lee.
On August 13, 1961 Jack married Dorothy Marie Calton and to this union two children were born, Jill and Danny.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Edna Green and Treva Williams; and a brother, Joe Deckard.
Jack is survived by his wife, Dorothy Deckard of the home in Grovespring, Missouri; his daughter, Jill Harrill and her husband Charlie of Grovespring, Missouri; his son, Danny Deckard and his wife Julie of Marshfield, Missouri; five granddaughters, Nicole and her husband Trenton, Lindsey and her husband Lane, Haley and her husband Zack, Miranda and her husband Ben, and Hannah and her husband Jordan; seven great-grandchildren, Logan, Colter, Clara, Jace, Gracie, Aubri and Luke and one more on the way; and other relatives and friends.
He loved horses and always kept several. He had many “Horse Buddies” and looked forward to riding. He also had a fondness for old vintage cars. He loved collecting things.
Jack made friends easily. He always attended church with his wife Dorothy and children at Orla Baptist Church where he was baptized down at the Orla River. He loved God with all his heart.
He was a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge and Shriners.
Jack loved his family so very much and enjoyed being with them. He will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather and great-grandfather and trusted friend. He will be remembered for years to come by those who knew and loved him.
Funeral services for Jack Deckard will be Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 28 from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Roper Cemetery.
A memorial to the Orla Baptist Church Building Fund has been established and donations may be left at the funeral home.
