Jack Guidry (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Jack Ray Guidry, son of Joseph Avid and Seidonoa Irene Adams Guidry, was born July 25, 1921, in Springhill, Louisiana. He departed this life Friday, June 22, 2012, in his home, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety years, ten months, and twenty-seven days.
On December 24, 1946, he was united in marriage to Vela Smithart, and to this union two daughters and one son were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vela, in 1987; three grandchildren, Lindsay, Joseph, and David Payne; three brothers, Wilson, Elridge, and George; and two sisters, Louise and Francis.
Jack is survived by two daughters, Tina Cross, and Glenda Payne, and her husband, Bob, all of Lebanon, Missouri; a son, Jack Guidry, Jr., and his wife, Theresa, of Huber Heights, Ohio; six grandchildren, Vela, Michael, Johnny, Tyler, Jackie III, and Michell; nine great-grandchildren, Mikayla, Cadence, Jessie, Kyle, Jillian, Nick, Amber, Ashley, and Marissa; two sisters, Goldie Anderson, of Jones Creek, Texas, and Pearl Bellow, of Tuscumbia, Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born in Louisiana, and was raised in Freeport, Texas, where he attended Angleton High School, and was a member of their football team. He then served in the United States Navy from July 15, 1942, until February 7, 1946, during World War II. He later was an honor flight graduate of Clear Creek Baptist Seminary, and worked as an evangelist. He also was a member of the Southern Baptist Convention.
Jack was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Lebanon.
In his spare time he enjoyed dancing, singing, and traveling. He enjoyed life to the fullest and never met a stranger. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jack was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that he will be fondly remembered as a devoted family man, a dedicated pastor, a proud World War II veteran, and a good friend.
