Jack Hopkins (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Jack Edward Hopkins, 83, of Humansville, MO passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar, MO.
Jack was born to Henry and Cloa Akins Hopkins on June 18, 1935. He was raised around Dade, Polk, and Cedar County. From an early age Jack enjoyed the outdoors. He enjoyed bird hunting and going to Kansas to work the harvest. It was the year he turned 15 that this work provided him the means to buy his first car. He always enjoyed road trips, especially down the untraveled road. When he would take his family on trips for softball or for leisure, the return journey was always a different path.
Jack served his country in the Army where he went to cooking school. This craft was well used in Korea. He was a hell of a cook, and no one made better biscuits and sausage gravy from scratch.
Jack was a man with gifted hands. If something needed to be made or fixed, he was the man for job. For much of Jack’s life, he fixed cars and other machinery. He also used his hands more delicately when he was tending to his garden. He wasn’t much for flowers, but he greatly enjoyed growing his own vegetables.
Jack spent most of his adult life working at the meat packing plants in Kansas City He was the Plant Maintenance Supervisor at Rutherford Foods and Plastic Packaging.
Above all, Jack loved his family dearly. He enjoyed playing games with them, dominoes being his all-time favorite. He was the family leader, strong in his convictions with an undying love. He was a good son, a great brother, a wonderful father and grandfather, and a decent man.
Jack is survived by his daughters; Kathy Polzkill, Peggy Hopkins, Eileen (Randy) Keller, and Elaine (Ron) Botka, grandchildren; Mollie Keller, Luke Keller, Joseph (Cassie) Botka, and Carol Botka, great-grandchildren; Emersyn Botka, Colsen Botka, and Logan Claunch, his sisters; Mildred Wilder, and Wilma Boyer, his brother; Bill (Vergie) Hopkins, and numerous nieces and nephews.
