Jack D. Montgomery (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Jack Dean Montgomery, son of Russell Charles and Chloe B. Lindsay Montgomery, was born July 16, 1935, near Morgan, Missouri. He departed this life Wednesday, February 6, 2019, in Lebanon South Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-three years, six months, and twenty-one days.
On August 21, 1955, he was united in marriage to Barbara Sue Prosser, and to this union one daughter and one son were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Ruth Carol Amos.
Jack is survived by his wife, Barbara, of the home; a son, Craig Montgomery, and his wife, Mary, of Marshfield, Missouri; a daughter, Lea Ann Bailey, and her husband, Jason, of Lenexa, Kansas; a grandson he helped raise, Elijah Bailey; a number of grandchildren; and step-grandchildren; a brother, Jerry Montgomery, and his wife, Suzanne, of Bentonville, Arkansas; two sisters, Bonnie Gray, and her husband, Ron, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Beverly Doerge, and her husband, Ken, of Overland Park, Kansas; a brother-in-law, Eddie Amos, of Lebanon, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in the Morgan community, and graduated from Conway High School. After he and Barbara were married, they made their home in the Morgan area until moving to Phillipsburg in 1969. They then made their home in Nebraska for a time, before returning to the Lebanon area. Jack worked for the railroad for thirty-four years, and was employed by the Frisco Railroad and also the Burlington Northern Railroad throughout the years.
Jack was saved at the Morgan Baptist Church where he was a longtime member and was ordained as a Deacon. In 1993, he and Barbara transferred their membership to the Hillcrest Baptist Church in Lebanon, where Jack also served as a Deacon. He had also gone on a mission trip to Haiti with his church friends.
He had served on the Conway School Board, and was a Road Commissioner for the City of Phillipsburg. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, working puzzles, collecting vases and playing golf during his later years. He also loved starting rose bushes from other rose bushes. His family was very dear to him and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren.
Jack was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and know that his family and friends will treasure the wonderful memories he made for them during his lifetime.
Memorials have been established for Missouri Baptist Children's Home, Roper Cemetery, Hillcrest Baptist Family Life Center and the Gideon Bible Ministry.
