On August 23, 1950, he was united in marriage to Freda Mae Winfrey, and to this union one son was born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Freda, on October 18, 2006; four brothers, Vernon, Clifford, Sherman, and Loraine Claxton; and two sisters, Dorothy Lemery, and Ruth Berry.
Jack is survived by a son, Larry Claxton, and his wife, Patti, of Moore, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Matthew Claxton, and his wife, Heather, and Cari Claxton, all of Moore, Oklahoma; a sister, Freeda Myers, of Lebanon, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was raised in Wright and Laclede Counties, and received his education there. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army during the Korean War. After he and Freda were married, they made their home in Lebanon, and then Mexico, Missouri, before moving to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where they lovingly finished raising their son. Throughout the years, Jack worked as a long haul truck driver, and was employed by Time-DC for many of those years. In 1988, soon after he retired, Jack and Freda moved back to Lebanon, Missouri.
Jack had attended New Hope Baptist Church and had made his peace with his Lord and Savior.
He was a 32nd Degree Mason in the Masonic Lodge in Oklahoma City, and had held most all of the offices in that organization. In his spare time he enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and working jigsaw puzzles. He also liked watching television. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Jack was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and know that his family and friends will treasure the special times they shared over the years.
