Jackie Dean Smith, son of Claude and Florence Loewe Smith, was born February 4, 1943, in Waverly, Kansas. He departed this life Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at his home, near Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of seventy-one years, ten months, and twenty-seven days.
On April 25, 1964, he was united in marriage to Wilma Louise Myers, and to this union one daughter was born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Louise, on September 6, 2012; and a son, William Smith.
Jackie is survived by a daughter, Deanna Strong, and her husband, Darren, of Lebanon, Missouri; a grandson, Dakota Strong, of Lebanon, Missouri; two brothers, Charles Smith, of Kansas City, Missouri, and Keith Smith, of Amity, Missouri; a sister, Annette Higdon, of the State of Texas; his mother-in-law, Wilma Myers, of Lebanon, Missouri; four brothers-in-law, Ron Myers, of Urbana, Missouri, Kenny Myers, of Eldridge, Missouri, Jack Myers, of Forney, Texas, and Rick Myers, of Lebanon, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was raised in the Stewartsville, Missouri area where he graduated from Stewartsville High School. He then made his home in Kansas City and worked for General Motors for a few years. After he and Louise were married, they lived in Idaho and Jackie began his career in the trucking business. He owned and operated his own trucking company for many years and worked all over the United States until retiring to the Lebanon community about nine years ago.
During his younger years, he enjoyed fishing and hunting, but working was always his passion. He was selfless and put the needs of others ahead of his own. He made friends easily, was enjoyable to be around, and never met a stranger. He had greatly missed Louise the past two years.
Jackie was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and know that his family and friends will treasure the wonderful memories he made for them during his lifetime.
