James Bryner's Obituary
James Willis Bryner, 74 passed from this life on Thursday, March 19th, 2009 in Hermitage, Missouri . Jim, a resident of Hickory County for the past five years was born in Kewanee , IL on October 10, 1934, an only child to LaVetta Carlson and Willis Charles Bryner. He was lovingly raised by his paternal grandparents, Charles and Blanche Bryner of Kewanee , IL . Jim learned to fly as a young man in Kewanee and spent many years piloting his own airplanes through the course of his adult life. He was a graduate of the University of Miami, Florida and honorably served his country in the U. S. Army as a Staff Sergeant stationed in Germany . On a blind date while in Germany , he met his wife of 50 years, Berta Ann Williams. Jim and Berta had a passionate and devoted friendship and love affair and traveled extensively making many friends along the way. Jim enjoyed fishing with his sons, taking his family camping and was always the life of the party. Jim was infatuated with genealogy and assisted many families’ in researching missing relatives; also revealing that several of his own grandchildren had a great, great, great grandfather who was a secretary to Abraham Lincoln. Jim owned and operated many businesses throughout his professional career including Bryton Technology of Toulon and West Jersey, IL, Tri State Tire and Schaap Brenner Car Care Centers of Sacramento CA , Kelly Distributing of Auburn CA , Valley Tire of Ojai CA and Bryner’s Illini Tire of Princeton IL . Jim’s true passion was revealed in his later years as he became a published author. Jim has three books in publication and has at least 9 more books complete. His family will carry on his desire to get more of his books in publication. Jim was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, son and grandson and remembering and missing him today are wife, Berta Ann Bryner and 4 children, Kelly Elizabeth Riley of Chandlerville, IL, Jennifer Lynn Nicolay of Diamond Springs, CA, Mark James Bryner of Lakewood, CO and Eric Matthew Bryner of Kewanee, IL. He is also survived by half brother, Dennis C. Packee of Osceola , IL , seven grandchildren, Shannon, Ryan , Chad , Cassi, Meghan , Jordan and Matthew and 2 great grandchildren, Madailein and Aiden. Jim was preceded in death by his parents. We want to express our deepest gratitude and love to our extended family, Helen and Marlin Lincoln and Dean Brownfield who was Jim’s biggest fan. Our family would also like to thank the staff at Christian Health Care in Hermitage where he was lovingly cared for during the last weeks of his life. Family and friends will say goodbye at a graveside service Monday, March 23, 2009 at Dooly Bend Cemetery in Hickory County at 10:00 am. Military Honors will be provided by the AMVETS Post #114 of Flemington, Missouri. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar, Missouri.
