James Cameron's Obituary
James Albert Cameron was born March 20, 1919 in Cedar Gap, Missouri. He departed this life to join his Heavenly Father and his wife, Reva Janice Cameron, on Thursday, July 5, 2012, at ninety-three years of age.
James and Reva were united in marriage on June 1, 1938 in Cedar Gap, Missouri. They had two daughters and one son.
James was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Reva Janice Corder Cameron; his parents, John Daniel Harrison Cameron and Sarah Ann Mason Lakey Cameron; his brothers, Chester, Elmer, Charles, John, and Benjamin; his sister, Edith; sons-in-law, Derald Hosiner and Johnnie Adamson; and a brother and sister-in-law, Judd and Lois Corder
He is survived by his daughters, Janice Hosiner of Granbury, Texas and Karlene Adamson of Mansfield, Missouri; his son, Kyle Cameron and wife, Wendy, of Venus, Texas; twelve grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a number of nieces and nephews, as well as other relatives and friends.
James was a lifelong resident of Mansfield and attended Mansfield High School.
James was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1944 and was stationed in the Philippines during World War II, returning April 1946. He was an Ammunition Bearer and Rifle Expert. His rank was Private First Class, Company “B”, 80th Chemical Mortar Battalion. He was awarded a Bronze Star.
After his time in the service, James built and sold houses and taught music at various churches. He later owned and operated the Seymour Hardware Store. He also sold real estate and then he sold insurance, retiring at sixty years of age.
James gave his life to Jesus Christ and was a faithful member of the Lead Hill Freewill Baptist Church in Mansfield. He was a deacon for over 45 years. He wrote a hymn titled “By Wonderful Grace” that was published in the Boundless Love hymnal in 1949.
His main love after his family was music. He played almost every stringed instrument invented and went to the Stamps Baxter School of Music in Dallas. He sang in a quartet that was even on TV in Dallas. The quartet also traveled to different churches every Sunday as guest music. As a member of the Mansfield Ridge Runners, he played bass guitar and bass fiddle in homes and on the square in downtown Mansfield.
Our Dad/Granddad means so much to us and has been such a Godly example to our families. We love him and will miss him dearly.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, July 9, 2012 in Holman-Howe Chapel, Mansfield with burial and military honors to follow in the Mansfield Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 4:00 P.M. Sunday in the funeral home.
