James D. Chaney (Bolivar)'s Obituary
James (Jim) D. Chaney, age 83, of Bolivar, Mo. Passed away on March 29,2025. Jim was born April 1,1941, in Moberly, MO. To Russell and Etheleen Chaney.
Jim graduated from Mexico Mo High School and married his High School sweetheart, Judy on Oct.1 1960.
In 1968 Jim and Judy moved to Gardner, KS with their two daughters and owned and operated Chaney’s Market for 7 years. Jim then went on to work in sales for the grocery industry for many years and then retired from the City of Gardner water district.
Jim was a member of various civic and charitable organizations, including the Gardner KS Chamber of Commerce, the Jaycees, and an elder for Zion Lutheran Church in Bolivar, MO. Jim had many hobbies, but his most cherished was that he was a highly skilled amateur guitar player and singer. Jim played in many weddings in the surrounding Gardner area. He was also a gifted woodworker and made many items that will be cherished forever. He loved watching sports and was the Chiefs, and Royals biggest fan and an avid MU fan.
Jim and Judy moved to Bolivar, MO. In 2015 to be near family. His greatest passion was his wife, Judy, they were inseparable, and his two daughters, Carol and Danna. Jim and Judy’s admiration, love and respect for one another were greatly admired.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Judy, his parents Russell and Etheleen Chaney, and three brothers, Gary, Larry, and Russell. He is survived by his daughter Carol Chaney-West of Bolivar, MO. Daughter Danna Chaney-Engel and husband Ron of Denver, CO.; sister Danna Moore from Donnellon, FL. and 4 grandchildren: Jennifer (husband Jerry), David, Colton, and Caleb along with 2 great grandchildren; Jimma and Jaylan.
A memorial service will be held Friday, April 11, 2025 at 10 a.m. at Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar.
