James Davis' Obituary
James Carl Davis, son of Daniel Arthur and Martha Hickman Davis, was born February 21, 1920, in Laclede County, Missouri. He departed this life Sunday, November 4, 2007, in his home, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-seven years, eight months, and thirteen days. On July 4, 1950, he was united in marriage to Betty Jean Hopkins, and to this union one son was born. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and three sisters. James is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Betty, of the home; a son, Jim Davis, and his wife, Vickie, of Lebanon, Missouri; two grandchildren, Ryan Davis, and his wife, Courtney, of Ozark, Missouri, and Heather Bryant, and her husband, John, of Lebanon, Missouri; a great-grandchild, Aidan Davis; two sisters, Lucille Jones, and Dorothy Williams, both of Wentzville, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born and raised in the Dove community, in Laclede County, Missouri. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army Air Corps from July 1, 1942 until December 5, 1945, during World War II. After he and Betty were married, they made their home on their farm, near Lebanon, and lovingly raised their son. In addition to operating his cattle and crop farm, he worked as a masonry contractor in and around Lebanon for many years. James was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Lebanon. In his spare time he enjoyed going to auctions and refinishing antique furniture. He liked to go fishing, recanting stories from World War II, and also was an avid reader. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchild. James was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. He will be fondly remembered as a loving family man, a dedicated businessman, and a caring, patriotic citizen, and will be greatly missed. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 7, 2007, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Lebanon. Burial will be in Mount Rose Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 7 - 8:30 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri.
