James Devore's Obituary
James Burnes Devore, son of Am “Buck” and Grace Hankins Devore, was born October 2, 1927, near Brush Creek, Missouri. He departed this life Tuesday, January 13, 2009, in Cox Medical Center South, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of eighty-one years, three months, and eleven days. On January 24, 1952, he was united in marriage to Pearl Winsel and to this union two sons were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pearl, on January 31, 1994; four brothers, John, Clint, Willie, and Elmer Devore; and five sisters, Grace Spother, Ella Mae Rogers, Margie Atteberry, Lela Butler, and Christina Robinett. Burnes is survived by two sons, Jimmy Devore and Bobby Devore, both of Lebanon, Missouri; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Rama Rogers, of Valparaiso, Indiana; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born and raised in the Lebanon area. After he and Pearl were married, they made their home near Lebanon and lovingly raised their sons. For a number of years, Burnes drove a truck for the Independent Stave Company in Lebanon. In his spare time he enjoyed being outdoors where his favorite activities were fishing, hunting, and working in his garden. He also liked going to auctions. He was a very giving person, had a delightful sense of humor and a very unique laugh. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Burnes was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle and was a caring neighbor and friend. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Services will be held at 11:00 am Friday January 16, 2009 at the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Lebanon.
