James "Jim" Dougherty (Mansfield)'s Obituary
James Garfield “Jim” Dougherty, son of Garfield James and Jennie Dougherty, was born June 14, 1932 in Boone Township, North Carolina and departed this life on December 2, 2017 in home at Macomb, Missouri
On November 18, 1954 he was united in marriage to Rose Frederickson and to this union six children were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Rose on September 23, 2007, infant daughter, Lillie Dawn Dougherty, granddaughter, Vanessa Dougherty, two brothers, Ray & Howard Dougherty and a sister, Ruth Reeves.
Jim is survived by two sons, James Dougherty of Springfield, Missouri and Mike Dougherty and wife, Beth, of Macomb, Missouri; three daughters, Patti Esmail and husband, Sam, of Little Rock, Arkansas, Jennie Piland and husband, Joseph, of Seymour, Missouri and Sherri Curtman and husband, Kevin, of Marshfield, Missouri; ten grandchildren, Tim and Heather Piland, J.R., Treanna and Serena Dougherty, Sarah Esmail, Jennifer Hill and husband, Blake, James Mitchell, Morgan Curtman and Hank Dougherty; five great-grandchildren, Andrew, Hunter and Owen Hill, Slayten Rea and “B”; extended family, Kavin Mitchell, Joanna Dougherty and Pam Stover, numerous other family members and friends.
Jim was born in the mountains of North Carolina, and at the age of 16 left home, hopped on a boxcar and “rode the rails” across the country until joining the Army. He was stationed in Washington State and that is where he met and married Rose, the love of his life. Never were two people better suited as mates. They made their home in Shelton, Washington for thirteen years before moving to Macomb, Missouri in 1967. He and Rose worked side by side painting, pouring cement or whatever needed to be done. After Rose passed away, family and friends would ask Jim, “How are you?” and he would always reply, “All is well”. He undoubtedly was one of the hardest working men that ever lived and no one can dispute that.
Jim and Rose had attended Mansfield Church of Christ as their health permitted.
In his spare time he loved farming, his sawmill, taking care of his cows, reading Louis L’amour books and watching John Wayne movies.
He was a seasoned storyteller, and Had many great (and sometimes unbelievable) stories about his adventures through his life. (Although most had at least a tinge of truth to them.)
Jim was the best husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend a person could ever have. We celebrate his life and are sad at his passing, but we know the he and Momma, are dancing once again, FOREVER!
Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery, south of Mansfield in Douglas County.
