James Greer (Bolivar)'s Obituary
On Sunday September 21, 2014 Jim went home to be with his Lord. He had a long struggle with an illness, and left peacefully surrounded by his family.
Jim was born June 18th, 1944 the youngest of six children to John Russell “Russie” and Ressie Corliss Jones Greer. He was born, raised, and spent his entire life in the Goodson and Halfway community. As a youth he grew up farming with his family. Through his raising he learned the value of hard work, and the Lord’s grace. He enjoyed recounting stories from his youth of hot summers and cold winters spent on tractors and in fields with his Brother, Father, Family, and Friends.
On March 8th, 1969 Jim married Judy Darlene Holmes. To this union were born two children, James “Jimmy” Jeffery Greer and Jodi Lynn Greer. Jim’s children were the center of his life. He taught them both how to work, how to pray, and how to play. He ensured that they both had a solid foundation of morale and biblical fundamentals, and prepared them for the world. He guided his children through parables and witty insight. In his prime, he was one of the most competitive men to ever grace this earth. He encouraged this drive in his children in an effort for them to obtain their full potential.
Jim loved working and playing. Before his illness you would find him somewhere outside. He loved the outdoors, and stayed busy doing countless projects around the house. Several summers were spent on the lake with his family fishing, and several winters were spent in the woods with his Son. Later in life Jim found shear enjoyment in watching and playing with his five Grandchildren. The last few winters of his life were spent cutting wood with his Son-in-law, Doug and Grandson, Hayden. He found pleasure and taught pleasure to be found, in the accomplishment of a hard day’s work.
Anybody that knew him could appreciate his love for life. He never met a stranger, and loved to talk and share stories. He will be greatly missed by all of his friends and family. We are left with countless stories, great laughter, and even greater love from a simple man that taught us how to simply live.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Russie and Ressie Greer, one sister JoAnn Vincent, and four brother-in-laws Jim Bacon, Alden Parker, Dean Crowl, and Bill Vincent.
Jim leaves behind his wife Judy, of the home. His son Jimmy Greer and wife Ami and their children Hayden and Haylee of Goodson, his daughter Jodi and husband Doug Koch and their children Kaitlynn, Mackenzie, and Palyn of Goodson. His brother John Greer and wife Shirley of Goodson, his sister Joyce Crowl of Buffalo, his sister Betty Parker of Golden City, his sister Linda Bacon of Bolivar, and his brother-in-law Tim Robertson and his wife Melinda of Bolivar. He also leaves behind a host of Cousins, Nieces, and Nephews, extended family and friends.
