James Jim Brooke's Obituary
James O. Brooke, son of Jesse James and Nellie May (Cassida) Brooke, was born May 31, 1927, in Douglas County, Missouri. He departed this life Wednesday, April 19, 2006, in Cox Medical Center South, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of seventy-eight years, ten months, and eighteen days. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Orden and Dale Brooke; two sisters, Bonnie Smith, and Betty Woodburn; two nephews, Jeff Dunbar, and Cody Dry; and a niece, Connie Brooke. James is survived by two brothers, Don Brooke, and his wife, Billie, and L. Z. Wayne Brooke, and his wife, Vernie, all of Mansfield, Missouri; a sister, Faye Dunbar, and her husband, Duke, of Mansfield, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born and raised in Douglas County where he attended Star and Hicks Schools. He then joined the United States Army Air Corps and served his country faithfully from August of 1945, until January of 1947. He later moved to California where he worked in the orange groves. He moved to Mansfield in 1967 and worked for the city as the Water Department Supervisor, until retiring in 1993. In his spare time he greatly enjoyed fishing and spending time outdoors. James was a loving brother and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the memories he created for his family and friends. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2006, in the Holman-Howe Chapel, Mansfield. Burial will be in the Prairie Hollow Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home at their convenience. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Mansfield, Missouri.
