James M. Prater (Lebanon)'s Obituary
James Michael Prater, son of James Martin and Alice Faye Cass Prater, was born January 3, 1972, in Garnett, Kansas. He departed this life Friday, July 24, 2020, in his home, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of forty-eight years, six months, and twenty-one days.
On October 26, 2012, he was united in marriage to Janice Lynn Clarkson, and they renewed their vows on June 5, 2020.
James is survived by his wife, Janice, of the home; a son, Russell Prater, and his wife, Gabby, of Garnett, Kansas; four daughters, Michelle Dill, of Ellis Grove, Illinois, Shelby Prater, Madilynn Prater, and Heather Prater, all of Welda, Kansas; two step-daughters, Lynette Byrd, of Lawton, Oklahoma and Elizabeth James, of Warrenton, Missouri; his parents, James Prater, of Richmond, Kansas and Alice Cass, of Greely, Kansas; nine grandchildren; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He owned and operated his own trucking business. He lived his early years in Kansas and Arizona and was an owner/operator of his 18-wheeler. He worked as an over-the-road truck driver for several years. He eventually made his home in Lebanon, Missouri.
James had made his profession of faith in Christ in January and was at peace with his Lord. He was selfless, had a big heart and was always willing to help others.
He enjoyed Derby cars and mud tracks and also liked being outdoors and fishing. James also had a love of horses and enjoyed spending time with them. He had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. He was steadfast in his convictions and you always knew where he stood on things. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren.
James was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, and was a caring friend. We celebrate his life and know that his family will hold tight to the wonderful memories he made for them during his lifetime.
A memorial has been established and contributions may be made through the funeral home.
