Jim was born in Arkansas and raised in Seymour, Missouri. He had lived in Oklahoma and Oregon before moving to Anchorage, Alaska to make his home. He was a jeweler and had owned and operated the Goldsmith Jewelry Shop in Anchorage for many years. He had just recently moved back to Seymour, Missouri, to be near his family.
