James B Settle (Lebanon)'s Obituary
James Boulton Settle, Jr., son of James Boulton and Eva K. Roby Settle, was born January 12, 1923, in New Franklin, Missouri. He departed this life Monday, February 18, 2013, in Christian Health and Rehabilitation Center North, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety years, one month, and six days.
On November 11, 1950, he was united in marriage to Helen Louise Bryan, and to this union one daughter and one son were born.
His parents preceded him in death.
James is survived by his loving wife of sixty-two years, Helen, of the home; a daughter, Cathy Callicoat, of North Kansas City, Missouri; a son, Matthew Settle, and his wife, Beth, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; three granddaughters, Carrie Callicoat, Kenzie and Kelsey Settle; two sisters, Carolyn Blackburn, of San Rafael, California, and Joyce Novak, of St. Louis, Missouri; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Bowman, of Boonville, Missouri, and Phyllis McNiece, of Dallas, Texas; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in the New Franklin, Missouri community, and graduated from New Franklin High School. He served in the United States Navy from March 3, 1943, until November 25, 1945, and then served as a fighter pilot in the Navy Reserves for twenty years. He and Helen made their home in the Kansas City, Missouri area for many years, and James co-owned and operated Neal-Settle Printing Company. Later, after retiring, he and Helen moved to Lebanon and made their home.
He liked being outdoors and enjoyed camping. He was a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs Football Team. He possessed a keen sense of humor and loved to laugh. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed his granddaughters.
James was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that his family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories he made for them during his lifetime.
