James S. Walker (Lebanon)'s Obituary
James Stanley Walker, son of George and Valerie Glaub Walker, was born June 27, 1946, in Augusta, Georgia. He departed this life Tuesday, July 28, 2020, in the Harry S. Truman Veterans Memorial Hospital, in Columbia, Missouri, at the age of seventy-four years, one month and one day.
On August 3, 1968, he was united in marriage to Glenda Kay Aldridge, and to this union four sons were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, George Walker; and two sisters, Sandra Ladner and Valerie Harmon.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of fifty-one years, Glenda, of the home; four sons, Boomer Walker, and his wife, Veronica, of Phoenix, Arizona, Jim Walker and Gail Nichols, of Phillipsburg, Missouri, Michael Walker, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Joe Walker, of Phoenix, Arizona; five grandchildren, Beau, Shea, Logan, Dillon, and Leighton; two brothers, Bill Walker, of Buffalo, Missouri, and Joe Walker, of Columbia, Missouri; two sisters, Mary Beth Hartley, and Debbie Wilson, both of Gulf Port, Mississippi; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was raised in Centerville, Iowa and then entered the military as a young man. He faithfully served his country in the United States Navy from June 27, 1963, until being honorably discharged with the rank of Airman Apprentice on June 12, 1967. He earned several medals and awards for his years of service on an aircraft carrier during the Vietnam War. After he and Glenda were married they made their home in Phoenix, Arizona and lovingly raised their sons. Jim worked as a truck driver for a time and then was a welder for Allred Corporation for a number of years. He also worked as various other endeavors. In 2008, he and Glenda moved to Lebanon, Missouri and enjoyed their retirement years.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 4107 of Lebanon. He had a good sense of humor and had a distinctive way of showing love to people. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He was very proud of his military service and loved his country.
Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring friend. We celebrate his life and know that his family and friends will treasure the wonderful memories he made for them during his lifetime.
Funeral services will be Monday, Aug. 3 at 2 p.m. at Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday, Aug. 2 from 3 - 5 p.m. Burial will be at a later date in Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri.
A Memorial has been established to VFW Post 280 of Columbia, Missouri.
