Jane Ann Standley (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Jane Ann Standley passed away peacefully on Friday evening, January 30th, 2015. She was 68 years old.
Jane was born on July 15th, 1946 in Kansas City, MO to Paul and Arleta Shewmaker. She grew up in the Kansas City area graduating from Grandview High School in 1964. After high school Jane attended Southwest Baptist University where she graduated with a degree in music in 1968. At SBU is also where she met her future husband, Michael “Mick” Standley. After marrying in 1969, they moved to Parsons, KS where Jane began her career as an educator. After 16 years in Parsons, Jane and Mick, along with children Christopher and Tiffany, moved to Wichita, KS. In Wichita Jane continued her teaching career and enjoyed being a member of First Baptist Church and patronizing the many cultural and musical events in the Wichita area. In 1994, the family moved back to Bolivar, MO where Jane began her tenure with the Bolivar School District and earned her Master’s Degree in Education. While teaching in Bolivar, Jane valued the wonderful relationships she developed with her fellow teachers and hundreds of students she taught. Jane especially loved her years teaching the multi-age class FROGS (Friends Relying on Group Success).
After retiring in 2011, Jane enjoyed working in the garden with Mick and became an active member in the Missouri Retired Teachers Association. While teaching was Jane’s passion, she cherished the time with her husband, children and grandchildren. She loved making trips to Kansas City and Branson with the family as well as weekends spent with her granddaughters. In 2013 Jane was thrilled to see both of her children married.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Arleta Shewmaker and granddaughter, Lily Ann Standley.
Jane is survived by her husband of 45 years, Mick Standley, son Christopher and wife Erin Standley of Kansas City, MO, daughter Tiffany and husband John Matthews of Buffalo, MO and granddaughters Shelby Doke and Bailey Matthews.
