Janet Lea Snook (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Mrs. Janet Lea Snook, age 68, passed away at 6:13 PM, Thursday, January 12, 2012 in Bolivar after a year long battle with ovarian cancer.
Janet Lea Teters was born at Burge Protestant Hospital in Springfield, Missouri on May 27, 1943, the daughter of Roy E. Teters, Jr. and Elizabeth (Redford) Teters. After WWII the family made their home in Bolivar and Roy went into business with his father in Teters Nursery and Floral. When the older son, Tiffin Teters, Roy’s Brother, joined the family business in 1951, the two brothers started Teters Floral Products.
Janet later attended Oklahoma Baptist University and Southwest Baptist College. In 1962 she married Bob D. Burks and they had a shoe store in Bolivar for 16 years. They had three sons, David, Robert and Stephen.
Janet participated in many things while in Bolivar. She belonged to Thursday Musical Club, Federated Women’s Club, Beta Sigma Phi and PEO. In the 1980’s she was elected to the school board and served as president for a year.
Janet did love horses, especially Missouri Fox Trotters and showed horses during the 1970’s and 80’s. She trained her own horses and had two World Grand Champions and several other Championships during these years.
In 1983 she joined the Carol Jones Real Estate Company in Springfield as it was forming. She worked there 14 years and loved her work. She moved to Springfield in 1985.
In 1996 she met James Snook and they were married January 1, 1997. Jim was retired from McDonald Douglas in St. Louis, so Janet retired to join Jim in traveling in their R.V. They lived in all 48 states, all of the Provinces of Canada and below the Arctic Circle, and many States in Mexico. It was a lifestyle they both loved. They enjoyed nearly 16 years of being together.
Janet was preceded in death by her grandparents, Courts and Ruth Redford and Roy E. and Mabel Teters. Her father, Roy E. Teters, Jr. passed away on June 30, 2007.
She is survived by her loving spouse; James Snook, her sons; David Burks of Springfield, Missouri, Robert Burks and his wife Melissa of Bolivar, Missouri, and Stephen Burks and his wife Tara of Battlefield, Missouri, Jeff Snook and his wife Monica of Edwardsville, Illinois and her daughter; Jamie Huebner of St. Peters, Missouri, Eleven grandchildren, Hunter, Jacob, Hayden, Caleb, Kylie, Alea and Hannah Burks, Mitchell and Miranda Huebner and Riley and Randi Snook. Also her mother; Elizabeth Teters of Bolivar, MO; her brother Larry Teters and wife Nancy of Rogersville, MO. Many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and a host of friends.
A visitation for Janet will be on Sunday, January 15, 2012 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM in the Butler Funeral Home Chapel
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am, Monday, January 16, 2012 at the Butler Funeral Home Chapel in Bolivar, Missouri with Reverend Billy Russell and Dr. Bill Hooper officiating. Personal Reflections by Carol Jones. Arrangements under the care and direction of the Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar, Missouri. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Bolivar, Missouri. Music will be “I Believe” by Jodi Meadows, a violin solo “The Holy City” by Carol Harrison, “Go Rest High On That Mountain” by Haley Toombs. Casketbearers will be Morris Westfall, Ken Legan, Gary Meissner, Carl Goodin, Hunter Burks, Mitchell Huebner, David Burks, Robert Burks and Stephen Burks.
