Janet Schroeder's Obituary
Janet Mae Schroeder, daughter of Henry E. and Alvena L. Neal, was born October 8, 1932, in Clearlake, Iowa. She departed this life Thursday, November 10, 2011, at home in Diggins, Missouri, at the age of 79 years, 1 month, and 2 days.
On July 10, 1954, she was united in marriage to Melvin Eugene Schroeder of Diggins, Missouri, and together they shared fifty one years of marriage until Melvin’s death in 2005. Her parents preceded her in death as well as her four sisters: Marjory Nyhus, Margrett Beard, Betty Demerritt, and Pat Bledsoe.
Janet is survived by her children, Joe Ellen Jones and her husband Jim, and Gregory Lynn Schroeder, all of Fair Grove, Missouri, David E. Schroeder and his wife Teresa of Springfield, Missouri, Julia Ann Smith and her husband Bobby of Diggins, Missouri, Paula Schroeder of Fordland, Missouri, Brian Schroeder of Seymour, Missouri; sixteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Janet’s parents and her four sisters moved from Clearlake, Iowa to a small farm near Mansfield, Missouri when she was thirteen years old where she attended Newton school and later Mansfield school. Janet briefly left the country life to experience city living in Chicago and later Kansas City, Missouri only return to the Ozarks where she met Melvin and together they raised six children. Melvin and Janet taught all the children to fish, garden, help on the farm and help Janet to pick blackberries of which she both sold and made delicious cobblers. Janet later introduced her grandchildren and great grandchildren to the same joys.
In her spare time Janet enjoyed fishing, playing board games and puzzles, and having breakfast with friends. She was particularly proud of offering her home to family and friends to share birthdays, holidays, love and companionship. She took great pride in having developed a fruitcake recipe from which she would bake cakes for family and friends and distribute during Christmas holidays.
We celebrate Janet’s life and she will be forever loved by her family and everyone’s life she touched. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2011 in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Seymour, Missouri. Burial will follow in the Fordland Cemetery, Fordland, Missouri. The family will receive friends from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Monday evening in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Fordland Cemetery or Hospice Compassus in care of the funeral home at PO Box 366, Seymour, Missouri 65746.
