Janet F. Singer (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Janet Faye Singer of Aldrich, Missouri went to her Eternal Home on January 12, 2015. She was 67 years old. Janet was born in Denver, Colorado on June 27, 1947 to Dolly Demple Singer (nee Stroud) and John William Singer. Her paternal grandfather was James Edwin Singer “Pop Singer” of Bolivar, MO. She was predeceased by two brothers, Tommy and Johnny, and nephew Bruce. She is survived by her brother Jim Singer of Cortez, Colorado, and eight adopted children: Kristina, Jessica, Amy, Morningstar, Austin, Savanna, Felicia and Melanie.
Janet grew up in Utah and graduated from Box Elder High School in Brigham City. During the Vietnam era, Janet enlisted in the U.S. Army, working in administration and obtaining the rank of Sargent. Janet was stationed in Vietnam for three years, and after an honorable discharge began a 25-year career with the Bureau of Land Management, serving as Assistant State Director of the Billings, Montana BLM office.
An avid reader, Janet’s favorite authors were Janet Ivanovich and Tom Clancy. She loved crossword puzzles, suspense films, and long daily talks on the phone with her best friend, James Rice.
Janet felt her two greatest accomplishments in life were serving in the army and providing a safe harbor for foster children. Janet fostered a total of 23 children from infants to teenagers, and she went on to legally adopt eight of them. Most of her children were born to drug-addicted parents and were removed from situations of severe neglect and abuse. Janet loved her children dearly, and to quote her daughter Amy Singer, “[With you] I felt love, comfort and security. Everything I thought I would never have, I found with you.”
Janet also loved animals, and adopted numerous cats and dogs over her lifetime. She requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Polk County Humane Society, PO Box 334, Bolivar, MO 65613
