Janey K. Light (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Janey Kathryn Light, daughter of Warren E. and Kathryn VanStavern Robinson, was born March 15, 1925, near Competition, Missouri. She departed this life Thursday, February 15, 2018, in Mercy Hospital, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety-two years, and eleven months.
On February 5, 1954, she was united in marriage to Johnny Dean Light, and to this union one son was born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Johnny, on January 4, 2009; a brother, Wayne Robinson; and a sister, Lorene Amos.
Janey is survived by a son, Kim Light, and his wife, Kathy, of Lebanon, Missouri; a grandson, Brett Light, of Kansas City, Missouri; a granddaughter, Ashton Light, of Lebanon, Missouri; a brother-in-law, Freeman Light, of Raytown, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Pauline Light, of Muncie, Indiana; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.
She was born and raised in the Competition area, and graduated from Competition High School, where she excelled in volleyball and basketball. Her parents owned the Orla Mill and store where, as a youngster, she developed a lifelong love of fishing. During World War II, she and her parents worked in an ammunition plant in Indiana. Upon returning to Missouri, Janey worked at Fort Leonard Wood and then taught in area rural schools including, Hazel Dell, Dry and Dusty, Delto, and Dry Nob Schools. After she and Johnny were married, she was a devoted homemaker to her husband and a loving mother to their son. Janey then began a career with the Missouri Division of Family Services where she worked for over twenty years.
Janey was a longtime member of the Church of Christ and was active in the Hayes Street Church of Christ for many years.
She enjoyed playing volleyball and softball well into her 70’s, and also liked playing card games and board games with her friends and family. She enjoyed her life on the farm, was a wonderful hostess and loved entertaining her family and friends. She had a great affection for cats and dogs and dearly loved her dog, Mercedes. Her family was very important to her and she loved attending all of her grandchildren’s activities.
Janey was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them during her ninety-two years.
