Janice L. Lynch (Seymour)'s Obituary
An adored mother and grandmother, Janice L. Lynch was born November 8, 1938, and was called to Heaven in the twilight hours of September 9, 2020. She was eighty-one years, ten months and one day of age.
The only child of Everett Charles and Vivian Harriett (Lockridge) Roberts, she was born Janice Laneatte Roberts in South English, Iowa, a small town in Keokuk County, that boasted a population of 206 in 2018. Janice attended grade schools in South English, Promise City, and Seymour, Iowa, and was a graduate of the Seymour Iowa High School Class of 1956. As a young lady, she worked at Look Magazine and American Mutual Life in Des Moines, Iowa, and Wayne County Hospital in Corydon, Iowa. Janice moved to California where she attended Santa Monica City College and worked at Retail Credit in Santa Monica. In southeast Iowa, in December of 1961, Janice was united in marriage to John Daw, and Chris and Teri were born. The Daws moved to Missouri in 1969. Janice’s dad still lived in Allerton so she and the kids would visit often. While there, they attended a small Baptist church where Janice was baptized at the age of 33.
Janice wed Tony Pierce Lynch on January 19, 1979. She had been a dedicated wife, mother, and homemaker, and for a bit, worked part-time at Hutchens Steel Plant in Seymour, Missouri. They made Seymour their home for many years before moving to Fordland in 1993. Janice had only recently moved back to Seymour to be closer to family.
A fun-loving mom, Janice was always involved in her children’s school functions and sports activities. Summers were especially fun for the kids with trips to the creek to swim and catch crawdads. A neighborhood backyard always had a ballgame going and Janice would be right there. This dedication to family continued with her grandchildren – she was just as active and passionate, if not more so, in their sports and school activities, and hardly ever missed a game. One of many memorable moments involved a baseball umpire with whom she did not agree and she told him so, and was nearly thrown out of the game. Go Tigers!
For many years Janice bowled on leagues in California, Iowa, and Mansfield, Missouri. She liked to read, listen to music, especially gospel music, and canning. Janice enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Mississippi with Tony, their dogs Scamp and Spanky, and the many friends they met along the way. They all loved to play bocce ball and washers. She loved gardening and nature and would take her grandson on regular visits to the Nature Center in Springfield, sometimes twice a week.
In 1988, she and Tony became members of the First Christian Church in Seymour, Missouri, where she served fourteen years as treasurer, acted as song leader, and worked as church secretary. They later attended Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Seymour until poor health would not allow.
In more recent years, after encouragement from Teri, Janice started tagging along on the Seymour Bank Seniority Club bus trips. She enjoyed them so much she actually ventured on a few ‘solo’ trips.
In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death just a month ago by her loving husband of over forty-one years, Tony Lynch, who passed away August 8, 2020. She’d also suffered the death of her dear son-in-law, Jimmie D. Myers, in May of 2014.
Janice is survived by her children and grandchildren – son, Chris and Jil Daw, and their daughter, Tegan, of Richmond Heights, Missouri; and daughter, Teri Myers, of Seymour, Missouri; grandson, Dakota and Maria Myers, and their children, Caden, Braydon, and Echo, of Seymour; cousin, Peggy and Fred LeFever, of Washington, Iowa; dear friend, Karla Hughes, of Seymour; Janice’s best friend, Beverly Jacopian, of Ozark, Missouri; and many, many more friends and neighbors.
Her gentle spirit, those twinkling eyes and that sweet smile will always be fondly remembered. Janice will be sadly missed by all those blessed enough to know and love her.
