Janie Carpenter's Obituary
Janie Evelyn Carpenter, daughter of Claude George and Artie Mae Matney Heckendorn, was born October 3, 1919, in Seymour, Missouri.  She departed this life Monday, May 9, 2011, in Webco Manor, Marshfield, Missouri, at the age of ninety-one years, seven months, and seven days.
On February 9, 1942, Janie was united in marriage to Miles Franklin Carpenter and to this union five children were born.
Janie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Miles, on February 8, 1980; a son, Richard Carpenter; and four brothers, John, Richard, Jack, and Cyrus Heckendorn.
She is survived by three sons, Bob Carpenter and wife Patti, of Strafford, Missouri, Lowell Carpenter and wife Linda, of Marshfield, Missouri, and Gary Carpenter and wife Barsha, of Marshfield, Missouri; one daughter, Marilyn Mingus and husband Jack, of Seymour, Missouri; ten grandchildren, Dwayne Carpenter and wife Beth, Greg Carpenter and wife Cindy, Josh Davis, Justin Davis, Sheila Replogle and husband Steve, Shannon Morfeld and husband Brad, Abby Biggers and husband Brian, Ashley Crawford and husband Brandon, Jeff Mingus and wife Julie, and Julie Ervin and husband Matt; fourteen great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Gordon Heckendorn and wife Sue, of Seymour, Missouri; sister, Clarice Henderson of Arkansas City, Kansas; sisters-in-law, Margaret and Sybil Heckendorn; a very special friend, Georgia Muse; as well as a host of other relatives and many dear friends.
Janie was raised in the Seymour area and was a graduate of Seymour High School in the Class of 1938, and spent most of her life in the Seymour area. Janie and Miles owned and operated a farm just north of Seymour for several years, before moving to town in 1972.    She also worked at the Tobin-Hamilton Shoe Company as well as the H.D. Lee plant in Seymour, retiring in 1985 after eighteen years of service.
Janie had professed her faith in Christ as her Lord and Savior and was a member of the Seymour First Baptist Church, where she was involved with the WMU Group and faithfully worked in the kitchen whenever needed.
She took pride in her community, attending the Seymour Apple Festival as well as the Seymour High School Alumni Banquet, and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #144 in Seymour for many years.  Janie also served as an election judge in Webster County for many years.
Janie moved to Webco Manor in March of 2009 where she enjoyed spending time with her fellow residents, attending as many social activities with them as possible. In 2010, she was voted second runner-up in the 2010 Ms. Nursing Home District 4 Contest.
Janie loved spending time visiting with her family and friends, and her home was always open to anyone who stopped by.  In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting, cooking, and gardening.
Janie was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and was a caring neighbor and friend.  We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will cherish the many memories she has created for her family and many dear friends.
