Jasper Thomas Mackey (Seymour)'s Obituary
On March 20, 2012, Jasper Thomas Mackey was called home to his heavenly reward surrounded by those he loved near Seymour, Missouri, at the age of seventy-seven years, eleven months and thirteen days. Jasper Thomas Mackey, son of Carl and Katherine (Lytle) Mackey was born on April 7, 1934 in Bean Station, Tennessee.
Shortly after he was born the Mackey family moved near Seymour and opened a café on the west end of town. Thomas, as he was known to his family and friends, went to Mansfield School. During his senior year he was called to serve in the United States Navy. Following his service, he returned to the Seymour area and began working for the shoe factory. There he met the love of his life, Doris Ashley. Two years later the couple was married on October 6, 1962 and to this union two daughters were born.
Thomas professed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior shortly after he was married and he committed himself and his family to serving the Lord. He enjoyed attending the First Baptist Church. Thomas was always willing to help his neighbors. He taught his children to work hard and enjoy the blessings that the Lord gives.
A soft spoken man, Thomas was there for those he loved. He was a fine man, and was naturally good in the things he went to do. He was happiest when he was outside in God’s creation. From bee keeping to his garden, or working on tillers and lawn mowers, Thomas’ hands were never idle. He took pride in clearing the fence rows and along the roads, wanting to leave things better than he found them.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Webster Mackey and Franklin David Mackey; and his in-laws Dooley and Zadie Ashley.
Thomas leaves behind his loving wife of almost fifty years, Doris Ann Mackey; his daughters Barbara Noyes and husband Danny of Marionville, MO, Marsha Thomas and husband Joshua of Seymour, MO; his 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; his sister Margaret Becker and husband Ralph of Tavares, Florida; his uncle Reverend Russell Lytle of Kansas City, MO; several nieces and nephews, as well as a host of other friends and his church family.
Jasper Thomas Mackey was a loving husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle, nephew and a caring neighbor and friend. We will miss the moments of laughter, of encouragement and the way Thomas always made time for us. We celebrate his life, accomplishment and the treasured memories, knowing one day we will meet again.
