Jean Carpenter (Seymour) 's Obituary
Jean Carpenter, wife of the late Paul Carpenter, Sr., passed away surrounded by family, Saturday morning, July 7, 2018, at Glenwood Healthcare Center in Seymour, Missouri, at the age of ninety-five and a half years.
She was born Myrtle Jean Welch on December 16, 1922, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Arthur and Angie (Nichols) Welch. Jean was a WAV in the United States Navy from December 26, 1942 until December 18, 1945. Jean moved to Seymour in her early 20s. She met David Paul Carpenter, Sr., at the Seymour Roller Rink and shortly thereafter they were wed on July 22, 1950. The Carpenters raised three sons, David Paul Jr., James Arthur (Jim), and Thomas Eugene Carpenter. Jean was a loyal member of the Eastern Star, having served as Past Worthy Matron and other various stations. She was also active in the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. Jean was a devout member of the First Baptist Church of Seymour and a regular helper in the church nursery. She enjoyed painting, macramé, and crocheting, and loved to play tennis. Jean’s favorite times were spent with family. In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Paul, on March 5, 2018; son, Jim Carpenter in December of 2017; two brothers, Raymond Welch and Harold Welch. Surviving her are sons, David and Mary Carpenter, and Tom Carpenter and Karla Hughes; daughter-in-law, Linda Carpenter – all of Seymour; grandchildren Damon and Perry Carpenter of Springfield, Missouri; Jason Carpenter and Jane Dessing of Oakland, California; Holly Stearns of Lawton, Oklahoma; Kathy Cook; Debbie and Elmer Letsinger; Cindy-Kelly Handley; Butch and Janis Deal; Del and Shawna Ayers; great-grandchildren, Zoe Stearns, Corbin Stearns, Elizabeth Ayers, Lacy Gates, Andrea Mager, Craig Letsinger, Cory Letsinger, Anessa Richardson, Dillon Handley, Karlee Handley, Chance Deal, and Keeley Deal; her niece, Leann McGinnis, of Santa Rosa, California; her nephews, Harold Welch, Jr., of St. Louis, Missouri, and Doug Welch, of Oklahoma
Memorials to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital or Seymour 1st Baptist Church and may be left at the funeral home.
