Jean Ann Nelson was born September 25, 1962 to Susanne (Petersen) Drake, in Joplin, Missouri. She passed away Wednesday morning, March 11, 2026 in Spring Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center in Springfield, Missouri. Jean was sixty-three years, five months and sixteen days of age.
Jean grew up in the Springfield area and attended school there before moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma. She graduated from Union High School in Tulsa in the class of 1981. Following high school, she attended college and in 1982, met her true love and best friend, Stuart Nelson. They were married on April 9, 1983 at Community Christian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Together they shared forty-two wonderful years of marriage, building a life filled with family, hard work, laughter, and love.
They lived in several places in the Midwest throughout their married life. Jean was proud to be able to stay home and raise their two children, Christopher and Seanna.
Jean is preceded in death by her mother; and her loving husband, Stuart, who had recently passed away on December 28, 2025.
She is survived by her children, Christopher Nelson and his wife Charity, and Seanna Kalivoda and her husband Sam of Manhattan, Kansas; and four grandchildren, Oliver, Arthur and Journey Nelson and Elijah Kalivoda.
The last few years, Jean and Stuart had been attending Hillside Christian Church in Marshfield. Jean loved God and was ready to see Jesus and be reunited with her husband, Stuart.
Jean enjoyed sewing, quilting and crocheting. She loved making clothes and Halloween costumes for her grandchildren. Jean loved watching mystery movies and was a book lover. She never hesitated to share her opinion and had a dry sense of humor.
Most of all, Jean loved her family very much. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she enjoyed her time with them. We remember and honor the life of a devoted wife, beloved mother, and cherished grandmother whose love, faith, and kindness touched everyone who knew her.
