Jessie Croney (Seymour)'s Obituary
Jessie Elbert Croney, son of Jessie Elbert and Glennia (Goss) Croney was born May 18, 1944 in St. Louis, Missouri. He departed this life on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 surrounded by his loved ones in Mercy Hospital, Springfield, Missouri at the age of sixty-eight years, nine months and nine days.
After his parents passing, at age nine Jessie moved to Dora, Missouri, where he was raised. Jessie graduated from Dora High School before entering the United States Army in 1964. He faithfully served his country as a proud member of the Army and of his service with the 101 Airborne. Jessie continued on in the National Guard retiring after twenty-four years of military service.
On April 10, 1965 Jessie was united in marriage to his childhood sweetheart, Deborah Tetrick and to this union three daughters and one son was born. The young couple made a home and began their family. Jessie provided for his family while continuing his education and received a Bachelor’s degree Science in Business. In 1971, Jessie started working for the United Postal Service in St. Joe, Missouri. He became Post Master for Seymour, Missouri in 1982 where he worked until his retirement in 2000.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his infant sister Vera Louise Croney, his sister Norma Croney; his brother-in-laws Hattres Tetrick, Harry Tetrick, Hazel Tetrick, Bill Tetrick and Kimon Tetrick.
Jessie is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Deborah of the home; his children Shelley Wingo and husband Johnny of Seymour, Missouri, Angela Williams and husband Scotty of Seymour, Missouri, Cherie Roderick and husband Robb of Springfield, Missouri and Jesse Croney and wife Shannon of Mansfield, Missouri; his grandchildren J.T. Wingo and wife Taylor, Valley Williams and Scotty Jay Williams all of Seymour, Missouri, Fisher Croney and Parker Mattix both of Mansfield, Missouri; his sisters Vonda Wishman and husband Charles of St. Charles, Missouri, Virginia Kelley and husband Sam and Barbara Martin and husband Bill both of Dora, Missouri, Lynda Smith and husband Joel of Sycamore, Missouri and Glenna Bretz of Aurora, Missouri; his brother-in-laws Hase Tetrick and wife Glendoris of Brixie, Missouri, Wendel Tetrick and wife Katie of Drury, Missouri, Ferd Tetrick and wife Nita of Dora, Missouri and Narvil Tetrick and wife Beverly of Ava, Missouri; his sister-in-law Ima Griggs of Columbia, Missouri; several nieces and nephews as well as a host of other dear family and friends.
A member of the Protestant belief, Jessie lived out his faith. Unselfish and always the first to be there for those in need, Jessie served his Lord Jesus. He gave his family unconditional love and raised his children in the way of the Lord. He was a member of the Masons, the Lions Club of Seymour, Missouri, and served on the Seymour School board. Jessie believed in giving back to his community and found favor helping others.
He enjoyed music and played three instruments. An avid outdoors man, you could find him hunting the Ozark hills or fishing on area lakes and streams. His family always came first, and his pride for them was shared with the many postal patrons over the years. He was quick with a smile and could talk to anyone about anything. A true friend with a servant’s heart, Jessie worked tirelessly for the community and those he loved.
God, family and country; not just words but the core of Jessie Elbert Croney. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments cherishing the special moments he created for us all.
