Jessie Henderson's Obituary
essie Helen Henderson, daughter of John Peter and Dovey Oglesby Weddle, was born February 29, 1936, in Vance, Alabama. She departed this life Tuesday, February 3, 2009, in her home, near Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of seventy-two years, eleven months, and four days. On October 19, 1954, she was united in marriage to Kenneth J. Henderson, and to this union one daughter and two sons were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Kenton Ray Henderson; a granddaughter, Elizabeth DeGraw; four brothers; and three sisters. Jessie is survived by her husband of fifty-four years, Kenneth, of the home; a daughter, Margaret Owens, and her husband, Larry, of Sleeper, Missouri; a son, James Henderson, and his wife, Stacy, of Lebanon, Missouri; ten grandchildren, Amy, Brent, James, Jerry, Jennifer, Stephanie, Colton, Jaiden, Payton, and Tabitha; six great-grandchildren, Ashton, Tanner, Shelby, Emily, Jacob, and Madison; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends. She was born and raised in Alabama, and graduated from high school there. After meeting and marrying Kenneth, Jessie became a military wife and the family lived in various locations for the next several years, eventually making their home in Iowa. When Kenneth retired from the military, the family moved to Buffalo, Missouri and then to Lebanon, where they made their home officially in 1989. In addition to being a devoted homemaker to her husband and family, Jessie also worked at the library in Buffalo and then in Lebanon serving as an assistant librarian, particularly with the Book Mobile. She operated a quilting shop for several years and taught classes in quilting, and the art of growing and using herbs. Jessie had made her profession of faith in Christ and was active in Assembly of God Churches in the area for many years. She was especially involved in the women’s ministry and women’s missions. In her spare time she enjoyed quilting and cooking. She was particularly well known for Sunday dinners for her family and friends. She had recently been featured in an article in the Lebanon Daily Record. Her family and her faith were the center points of her life, and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jessie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, and was a kind and caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends. Services for Mrs. Henderson will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 6, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home with burial in the Church Grove Cemetery, near Foose, Missouri.
