Jessie McGhee's Obituary
Jessie Marie McGhee, daughter of Charles H. and Mattie E. Magee Wedge was born September 27, 1914, near Oakland, Missouri. She departed this life, Wednesday, October 11, 2006, in Christian Health Care South, Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety-two years, and fourteen days. She was united in marriage to Henry “Mac” McGhee on November 10, 1962, and they shared twenty-eight years together before his death on February 7, 1990. Her parents, three brothers, Ellis, Elmer, and Irvin, and one sister, Gladys Wedge also preceded her in death. Jessie is survived by one sister, Mabel Barr, of Lebanon, Missouri; nieces, Marie Wilson, of Lebanon, Missouri, Helen Fisher, of Holts Summit, Missouri, Lynn Greene, of New York, New York, and nephew, Leroy Wedge, of St. James, Missouri; and several other nieces and nephews. She was born and raised in the Oakland community and as a young lady began working at the Louise Wallace Hospital in Lebanon. Jessie became a Licensed Practical nurse; and after moving to Mt. Vernon, Missouri in 1960, she became employed at the Missouri State Chest Hospital. The hospital later became the Missouri Rehabilitation Center and Jessie had worked there twenty-one years before her retirement. She moved to Lebanon in the year 2000 to be closer to her sister, Mabel, and her niece, Marie, and her family. The family gatherings and especially holidays were very special to her. She had a fondness for dogs and usually had one for a companion. Jessie had made her profession of faith and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon, Missouri. She was also a member of the Eastern Star organization. She enjoyed her friends at the Terraces and all of the activities there. She participated in the parties, playing bingo, and the singing of gospel songs. Jessie was a loving sister, aunt, and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 14, 2006, in the Holman-Howe Chapel, Lebanon. Burial will be in Mount Rose Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri.
