Jewell Carter's Obituary
Jewell Georgene Carter, daughter of Walter and Iva Thomas Smith, was born October 2, 1926, in Wright County, Missouri. She departed this life Thursday, April 6, 2006, in her home, near Mansfield, Missouri, at the age of seventy-nine years, six months, and four days. She was united in marriage to Coy Carter on October 29, 1943, and to this union one daughter and four sons were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Coy, on September 24, 1983; a daughter, Vivian Lynch; a grandson, James Curtis Kirkland; and four sisters, Leota, Louise, Minerva, and Shirley. Jewell is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Marshall and Judy Carter, of Independence, Missouri, John and Sarah Carter, of Ava, Missouri, Rex and Kathy Carter, and Ronnie and Sandra Carter, all of Mansfield, Missouri; a son-in-law, Jim Lynch, of Mansfield, Missouri; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Leona Smith, of Mansfield, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born and raised in the Mansfield community. After she and Coy were married, they made their home in the Mansfield area and lovingly raised their children. Besides being a devoted homemaker to her husband and family, Jewell also worked at the Ken Bellew Hatchery, Tobin-Hamilton Shoe Factory, and at Casey’s General Store in Mansfield. Jewell had made her profession of faith in Christ and attended the First Assembly of God. In her spare time she enjoyed going on picnics, and having fish fries. She loved her family dearly and especially enjoyed her grandchildren. Jewell was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 10, 2006, in the Holman-Howe Chapel, Mansfield. Burial will be in the Hensley Cmetery. Visitation will be held Sunday from 3 - 4:00 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral home of Mansfield, Missouri.
