He was a statesman, farmer and stockman throughout his life. He possessed a vast knowledge of farming and the history of the region and its people. Following in the footsteps of his great-grandfather and father, he was elected to four terms as Presiding Judge of Camden County. Jewell was instrumental in the building of roads and infrastructure that are the basis of the Lake area as we know it today. He retired during his fourth term to care for his wife. Jewell was a board member of Bank of Lake of the Ozarks and a member of the Modern Woodsmen of America. His life revolved around his family and his farm. He and his wife were named Missouri Farm Family in 1971. He was a natural historian of Camden County because of his family history and their part in bringing the dam to the area. He loved to share his stories of the past. He was a star patron of Tonka Hills restaurant and could be found there every day around noon.
