Jewell Self's Obituary
Jewell Merle (Linebarger) Self, passed away on August 26, 2007 at St. John’s Medical Center in Springfield, Missouri, surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 15, 1913 in Huff, Arkansas to the union of Charles and Emma (Fowler) Linebarger. She was known to most as “Ma Jewell”, and was dearly loved by family, friends, and community, and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed traveling, crocheting, and being a little “mischievous”. During World War II, she served her country by working as a riveter at an aircraft plant in California, she also worked for Piccadilly Cafeteria, in Memphis, Tennessee where she met and later married Ralph E. Self, Sr. on March 16, 1949. They enjoyed fifty-eight wonderful years together. She had made her profession of belief in Christ and followed the Baptist faith throughout her life. After living most of her life in the New Prospect Community, Dry Prong, in Louisiana, they moved to Seymour, Missouri to make their home close to their daughter. Those left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband, Ralph Self Sr., of Seymour, Missouri; three children, Jerome Allgood, and his wife, Mae, of Red Bank, Mississippi, Ralph Self Jr., and his wife, Kriss, of Alexandria, Louisiana, and Linda Bodie, and her husband, David, of Seymour, Missouri; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; as well as one great-great-grandchild. In addition, Ma Jewell is also survived by two sisters and two brothers; and several nieces and nephews. Ma Jewell had a fun loving spirit and will be missed by all who knew her. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will treasure the wonderful memories she has created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2007, in the Holman-Howe Chapel, Seymour. Burial will be in the Rivermonte Memorial Gardens, Springfield, Missouri.
