Jimmie Jay Hayes (Buffalo)'s Obituary
Jimmie Jay Hayes, son of the late Cecil B. and Flossie (Vance) Hayes, was born on December 13, 1933 in Dallas County, MO and departed this life on October 6, 2025 at his home near Buffalo, MO. At the time of his passing he was 91 years, nine months, and 22 days of age. Jimmie was raised in southern Dallas County, MO and attended a one room school at Macedonia. He was saved and baptized as a young child. After his schooling he worked with his father and brother mowing lawns and cemeteries. He was united in marriage to Zena Pearl Swanigan on December 23, 1951 and to this union three children were born, one of whom survives him. Jimmie also worked for Phillips Tire for many years until going to work in the warehouse for Key Industries until his retirement. He enjoyed woodworking, taking on numerous projects for his family and friends as long as his health allowed. Jimmie also enjoyed playing rook with his family, he was always more observant than he let on. Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Wayne Hayes; one daughter, Nancy Canon; and one brother, Charles Hayes. He is survived by his wife Zena of the home; one daughter, Lola & husband Brian Ainley; one son-in-law, Allen Canon; one daughter-in-law, Brenda Stephens; seven grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He also leaves other family members and many friends who will all truly miss him. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 in the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Elliott officiating. Escorts will be Adam Ainley, Russ Patrick, Grant Ainley, Tyler Terrell, David Turner, Thomas Poynter, and Jessie Smith. Interment will be in the Macedonia Cemetery under the care and direction of the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home of Buffalo. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Funeral Home.
