Jimmie Jones (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Jimmie Grant Jones, son of Vernon and Nola Jones, was born March 4, 1937, near Competition, Missouri. He departed this life Sunday, July 30, 2017, in his daughter’s home, in Urbana, Missouri, at the age of eighty years, four months, and twenty-six days.
On February 28, 1997, he was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Greenwood, and they shared eight years before her passing on February 28, 2005.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Jami Jones; and a sister, Coleen Hughes.
Jimmie is survived by two daughters, Amelia Miller, and her husband, Mike, of Urbana, Missouri, and Diana Williams, and her husband, Kelly, of Belleville, Illinois; a son, Scott Jones, of Belleville, Illinois; five grandchildren, Kory, Delpha, and her husband, Wyatt, Alyssa, Kristen, and Nikki; an eagerly anticipated great-granddaughter, Nola Mae; two sisters, Connie Dunehoo, and her husband, Steve, of Springfield, Missouri, and Sharon Kilmer, of Carrolton, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was raised in the Competition and Orla communities and attended Competition School. He graduated from Hartville High School and then served in the United States Army Reserves for a time. He made his home in Kansas City, Missouri, where he first worked for the Avon Corporation before being employed by Mobil Oil Company for twenty years. After retiring, he moved back to the Lebanon area where he worked for Justice Furniture and then for the City of Lebanon for several years.
In his spare time he enjoyed planting a garden each year and was particularly proud of his tomatoes and cucumbers. He also liked doing wood carving and taking care of his farm. He had an interest in cars and especially liked vintage cars. He possessed a good sense of humor, loved to laugh, and was a good friend to many.
Jimmie was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that he will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
