Joan Corrine Jones, daughter of Murrell and Ella Wilkins Beherrell, was born November 24, 1939, in Lynn, Massachusetts. She departed this life Tuesday, March 27, 2007, in St. John’s Hospital, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of sixty-seven years, four months, and three days. On June 8, 1960, in Salem Depot, New Hampshire, she was united in marriage to Larry Daniel Jones, and together they shared almost forty-seven years. Her father preceded her in death. Joan is survived by her husband, Larry, of the home; four children, Judith Hoelzer, and her husband, Rodney, and Richard Jones, all of Fenton, Missouri, Carolyn Newman, and her husband, Gregg, of Rogers, Arkansas, and Mark Jones; eleven grandchildren, Jeffrey, Sarah, and Michael Hoelzer, Andrew Jones, Cole and Brian Newman, Neva, Zachary, Hannah, Esther, and Jessie Jones; one great-granddaughter, Alexis Hoelzer; her mother, Ella Beherrell, of Haverhill, Massachusetts; two sisters, Edna MacLeod, of North Reading, Massachusetts, and Carol Beal, of Haverhill, Massachusetts; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born in Lynn, and raised in Lynnfield, Massachusetts, where she attended school. She lived for a few years in Revere Beach, Massachusetts. She met and married Larry while he was serving in the United States Navy; they first made their home in Revere Beach, Massachusetts, and then Newport, Rhode Island. They moved to the St. Louis, Missouri area in the mid 1960’s. They first settled in Webster Groves, and then in Fenton, Missouri, where Joan was a devoted homemaker and loving mother. In addition to raising a family, where she continually baked bread, desserts, and wonderful meals, sewed most of her daughters’ clothing and sons’ shirts, she also ran a personal tailoring business out of their home. She was a very talented and gifted seamstress and created beautiful wedding apparel and clothing. In 1999, she and Larry moved to Lebanon, Missouri to make their home on the Jones’ family homestead. Joan was a very active member of Fenton United Methodist Church, Manchester United Methodist Church and then Summit Christian Church in St. Louis, where she served in many capacities, including teaching children’s Sunday school and a women’s Bible study. After moving to Lebanon, she attended Southern Heights Christian Church, where she gave actively of her time and talents. She volunteered through her church in St. Louis for the Circle of Concern in Valley Park, Missouri. This work included personal counseling. She was a lady of great courage who fought her way back from a debilitating stroke and worked her way up to walking five miles each day. She enjoyed gardening, particularly growing delicious strawberries, and making quilts. Her family was always foremost in her life and she especially enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter. Joan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends, and we will miss her dearly. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 30, 2007, in Southern Heights Christian Church, Lebanon. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri.
