Joe Grant (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Joe Grant, age 88, of Morrisville, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at his home, in Morrisville.
After a long and valiant fight against cancer, Joe W. Grant of Morrisville has been relieved of his earthly body and is resting in the arms of his Savior. Born on “9-9-30” as Joe would say, he lived 88 years and 9 days being a wonderful husband to Sarah and the perfect role model of a father to Judy Stainback-Johnson (Steve), Steve Grant (Stephanie), Susan Towner (Mark), Gary Grant and Mike Jones. “Daddy Joe” was the name his grandchildren gave him. Eric Stainback (Linda), Ryan Towner (Amanda), Keith Towner (Julie), Sarah Whitten (Adam), Laura Smith (Beau-Gabriel), Stephanie Youngblood (Josh) and Katie Jones will all have to rely on “asking Google” when they have a question instead of going to the grandfather they knew would always have an answer. Eleven great grandchildren, Regan, Luke, Noah, Tyler, Carter, Colin, Audrey, Hailey, Remington, Benjamin and Ava will have precious memories of going to the farm and the special love from their Daddy Joe.
Joe became a Christ follower at a young age and was active in all the churches in his life, most recently serving as the Director of Sunday School for Brighton Baptist Church where he and Sarah were members and made lasting friendships that will be of great support for Sarah in the days to come. His family will cherish the memories of Joe's prayers before our family gathering meals and take comfort in knowing he is in the presence of that Lord forever.
Education or career accomplishment was not something Joe would ever boast about, but the diplomas from the University of Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy and Drury College as well as the many memberships in professional societies in Engineering, Agriculture and Nutrition tell the story of his passions. After service to the country he loved through the Army during the Korean War, civilian work began with City Utilities, then Springfield Public Schools, Mid-America Dairymen and as adjunct professor in nutrition at Southwest Baptist University. Anyone who ever met this humble man could quickly determine his concern was as sincere as his knowledge was vast as he shared willingly with all.
There are and have been many great men in the world who have made a difference that impacts lives around them and beyond. Joe Grant is one of those who should be counted among that number and will forever be in the hearts of so many he touched with his compassionate gentle spirit.
Burial at the Morrisville Cemetery in Morrisville, Mo., will follow the service.
